WHAT FAITH IS NOT
‮‮ Hebrews‬ ‮11:1‮-‬2‬ ‮AMP‬‬[1] Now faith is the assurance (title deed, confirmation) of things hoped for (divinely guaranteed), and the evidence of things not seen [the conviction of their reality—faith comprehends as fact what cannot be experienced by the physical senses]. [2] For by this [kind of] faith the men of old gained [divine] approval.‬‬‬‬‬
Faith is not proportional to shouting. Fools make most noise. Faith, many times, is different from being prayerful or being zealous about God or things of God. Many times those who do long prayers are doing so because they are struggling with God - in disobedience. Jacob knew how to fight with God and yet he took over 20 years to reconcile with God. People of old have been accused of drawing near to God with their lips while their hearts were far from Him.
‮‮ Isaiah 29:13‮ AMP‬‬[13] Then the Lord said, “Because this nation approaches [Me only] with their words And honors Me [only] with their lip service, But they remove their hearts far from Me, And their reverence for Me is a tradition that is learned by rote [without any regard for its meaning], AMP‬‬‬
Faith is always a thing of the heart and it is always now. Some mistakenly take hope to be faith. Have you never heard of people who are confessing 'I will not die' till they stop breathing? I have heard of such. So my brethren faith confession can sometimes be empty. As there are words of faith so are careless words.
‮‮ Matthew‬ ‮12:36 ‮AMP‬‬[36] But I tell you, on the day of judgment people will have to give an accounting for every careless or useless word they speak. AMP‬‬‬‬
Praying long instead of obeying God is not faith: it is hypocrisy. Faith is not positive thinking or confession.
What faith is not?
It is not the same as believing in yourself. That is opposite faith - for faith is always based on God's word.
‮‮ Romans 10:17‬ ‮AMP‬‬ So faith comes from hearing [what is told], and what is heard comes by the [preaching of the] message concerning Christ. AMP‬‬‬
Faith for healing or for receiving things from God is different from faith for salvation. That is why not all men are saved. Sinners also get things from God (Mt 5:45). If one has faith for salvation, sin and sinning must have either stopped or are fast reducing (1 Jn 3:8-10). Holiness is acquired along with salvation faith. Salvation from sin is the first fruit of real salvation that Jesus purchased for us. Sin was the quarrel in that Garden and until sin is removed, you are not saved yet. Let no man deceive you (Mt 24:4).
Correct saving faith believes four things as can be seen in 1 Cor. 15:1-11.
1. That Jesus died for our sins according to the scriptures
2. That He was buried
3. That He came back to life on the third day
4. People saw Him
You can also see Him if you have saving faith. If not you are already cut off from Him forever. But you can be saved just now by confessing your sins and by telling Him that you believe these four things that all believers, including Paul, in the early Church believed.
