TO BE LATE IS BETTER

I woke up this morning with an impression to say to you that to be late it's better than to be the late. The impression went something like that. It's better that when people come to visit our relatives and friends that they do not say, "We heard what happened and we have come to comfort you." Let it not be that while they are saying that, they are aware that the person being talked about is no more on this side of eternity. It's better to be alive than to be dead. It's better to be a failure than to be dead and is better to be a living dog than to be a dead lion. Congratulations that you are alive.

Ecclesiastes 9:4
For to him that is joined to all the living there is hope: for a living dog is better than a dead lion.

What does the Bible mean? It means
1. Times are related to events or stages in our lives. Ecclesiastes 3:1-8
1 To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
2 A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
3 A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
4 A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
5 A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
6 A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
7 A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
8 A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.

I'm sorry that you are not married yet, but I thank God that you are alive. Marriage can still come. There is hope for the living. Some of your age mates and class mates who are dead don't have that opportunity.

I'm definitely not happy that you have no job. That's a terrible plague in our times. The government has been reckless. The politicians have been thoughtless most of the time since after Shagari.  Even here I look for something to thank God for. That you are alive is one thing I must praise God for.

It's not that I rejoice that I don't have enough money to support you and your business. I only rejoice before God that I'm still alive to pray for you and to be a counsellor to you - though you don't seem to need my counsel most of the time. I understand your bitterness against everybody. You are young and youthful lusts make you want to fly and become a billionaire overnight. Be patient. That is why I'm writing this to you. What else does the Bible mean by saying that a living dog is better?

2. You need to hear how the book of Psalms started. Psalms 1:1-6
1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
4 The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.
5 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.
6 For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.

Only the living can be like a tree planted by the rivers of water (v. 3). Only the living can hear this proverbs. Even if the dead has memory of it, he or she has no hope of any useful desire on this side of eternity. For the dead, everything about this life is too late. This lesson can be learnt from the rich man in that place of torment.
A. In Death, Every Desire Is Too Late to Be Met
Luke 16:24-26
24 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.
25 But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.
26 And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.
-Thank God that it's not too late for you to marry. Fast and pray to God over it.
-A job can come knocking at your door even today or tomorrow. An idea for making millions may have already come to you. This reminds me of a dream I had not long ago. I saw in the dream a tree that has so many fallen dry branches. Under it was so clumsy because of the many sticks that have fallen from the tree. When I prayed further, the Lord told me that ideas that have come to me are so many. Each of them can make me rich. Please look under. You are like that tree too. Stop discarding your branches or opportunities. May suitor have come and you let them fall off. Why are you like this?
