‘AND WHEN YOU HAVE COME IN, YOU SHALL SHUT THE DOOR BEHIND YOU AND YOUR SONS.’ 7
[9TH MAY 2022 (9.5.22 WFT *WISDOM FOR TODAY * Real Evangelism* by Bro. Alex Oguh)
2 Kings 4:4 (KJV) And when thou art come in, thou shalt shut the door upon thee and upon thy sons, and shalt pour out into all those vessels, and thou shalt set aside that which is full.
Mk 3:13-15 GNB Then Jesus went up a hill and called to himself the men he wanted. They came to him, and he chose twelve, whom he named apostles. "I have chosen you to be with me," he told them. "I will also send you out to preach, and you will have authority to drive out demons."
Good morning once again. Can we learn Jesus more and know what it means to follow Him? We are talking about being shut in with the Master. We call it ALONE WITH GOD. Jesus is our best example in this. To choose the twelve (inner caucus) disciples, He spent a whole night in prayer - shut in with the Father (Lk 6:12-13).
See the process of choosing the followers in Mk 3:13-15. Each one of them must be a person who enjoyed being with the Lord. He went uphill. Pleasure seekers don't like climbing.
Jesus might have been calling you. He might have urged to pray more, read the Bible more, obey more, etc. Your refusal to obey is refusing His appointment.
Note this: the major assignment in His appointment is BEING WITH HIM. Are you ready for such an appointment? Everybody is eager to do something for God. That is the greatest mistake of people called into the ministry. They end up becoming men of the people and not men of God.
It's only God who gives this type of appointment. How can one be called or employed to come and sit down and be talking to the Boss? That is what Jesus calls people to do - be close to Him.
This has never been a secret in scriptures.
* Elijah defined his work as standing before the Lord in 1 Kgs 17:1.
* Elisha defined his job as standing before the Lord (1 Kings 18:15; 2 Kings 3:14; 2 Kings 5:16).
* It was the custom of the Levites to stand all through their services in the Tabernacle. No seat in the Tabernacle.
The work is BE WITH ME. Do you like that type of work? Many times, the question is asked, WHO CAN STAND, ABIDE OR DWELL (Ps. 15:1; 24:3) near God?
The primary work is being with Him. He might send you and He might not. That is optional. Being with Him is a SHOULD. SHOULD means must. How do you weigh on this scale? Do you like to spend long time alone with God? Do you prefer talking a lot? Just remember that when you talk plenty, you are bound to have sin in your mouth.
Let me quote from https://counselingoneanother.com/2016/09/01/the-sin-of-talking-too-much/
“In the multitude of words sin is not lacking, but he who restrains his lips is wise” (Proverbs 10:19). “Whoever guards his mouth and tongue keeps his soul from troubles” (21:23). “He who guards his mouth preserves his life, but he who opens wide his lips shall have destruction” (13:3). These verses seem to be saying the more you talk, the more you will sin. The reason for this is found in the sobering truth of James 3:8: “But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.” We must discipline ourselves to refrain from speaking when it is not necessary. This is one mark of wisdom and maturity. “He who has knowledge spares his words, and a man of understanding is of a calm spirit. Even a fool is counted wise when he holds his peace; when he shuts his lips, he is considered perceptive” (17:27, 28).
Can you agree to be shut in with the Lord? Can you make prayer a priority from today?
Any questions?
