‘AND WHEN YOU HAVE COME IN, YOU SHALL SHUT THE DOOR BEHIND YOU AND YOUR SONS.’ 4
[5TH MAY 2022 (5.5.22 WFT *WISDOM FOR TODAY * Real Evangelism* by Bro. Alex Oguh)
2 Kings 4:4 (KJV) And when thou art come in, thou shalt shut the door upon thee and upon thy sons, and shalt pour out into all those vessels, and thou shalt set aside that which is full.
I thank God for the children of this widow. Supposing they refuse to stay in there with their mother. Supposing they complained that the room was too stuffy. Supposing their desire was to be with their cult friends, if any.
The disciple's willingness is the second most important thing in discipleship. The first is the choice of him by the Master. That is always the first. It's His choice that made all other things possible. John 15:16 (KJV) Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.
The Madam came back willing to follow Elisha's instructions. It was expected that the children would follw their mother.
That is where we have a role to play as disciples. We must be willing and be consistent followers of the Master and of one another. While following their mother, the children were automatically following the man of God. Not just the man of God, they would have been following God who instructed the prophet in the first place. This pattern is what is called the will of God. What we all submit to one another in God's will, then the will of God would be done on earth as in heaven.
Let's learn from this. There is this little yoke in following God. We must keep obeying Him or we are disqualified. There is no problem if God is the one coming directly to demand our obedience. His work is not done that way.
Sometimes, like He did through Eli, He speaks through people. He has spoken many times through my wife and through my children. Lord, forgive me for ignoring You because of the vessels used.
I normally have paper and biro ready whenever a person is to preach. Why? God may speak. In recent years, I used a palmtop or a phone. Oh, how this has annoyed some of my Church members. Some think that phones only contains bad things or are only used to make calls.
I wish I can be all things to them in order to save some. It has been hard for me because my palmtop has many Bible versions and translations plus commentaries. My people are used to one version - the King James. I check my heart over and over. Is the Lord condemning me for the use of phone? No.
In order that nobody's faith topple, I sit quietly and sometimes just take hand written notes. The notes can be elaborate. Even that is offensive to some.
Why do I do all these? It's all because of my desire to be shut in with the Lord. I wish to glean every instruction. I wish to know His mind. I want to be willing, even when many go away or deny Him. I keep hearing Him saying, "Don't worry, the cock would crow some day."
It was then that Peter began to weep. These children did well. They followed the word of the Lord to the family by simply following their own mother. May every Pastor command following.
Who do you follow in order to be obeying the word of the Lord? That is why you need a discipler. I have a discipler. What of you? Paul was a discipler to many of his time. He wrote generally
1 Corinthians 11:1 (KJV) Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.
Again who do you follow? And who is following you? Can you boldly say like Paul that Christians around you follow you?
If you have nobody you are following, I ask you to follow me. If you follow me, I'm sure to lead you towards heaven, but on the way you see deviating from the way of the Lord, just be praying for me and running away to save your own life.
