The Beginning of My Hearing God - Alex Oguh

The Beginning of My Hearing God
Alex Oguh

I was saved at an accident scene on December 30th 1991. The first Christian book I read after my conversion was written by a Pastor who was disciplined by his Church because a senior Pastor told a lie about him. The man suffered rejection for a time. Everyone looked at him as a sinner, when in reality, he did not sin. It was jealousy at work.

After a time, the rejected pastor was restored and he was posted out to a new station. God helped him in the new place and led him to a higher dimension of ministry.

The author kept quoting Rom 8:28 I saw that all things work together for Good to them who love God. I was in prayers when I finished reading the book. Then I heard audibly some important things about how my life, even in the past, would be turned into good. I turned around to see who was talking to me. I saw none. I asked a person in the next room whether he heard anything. That person said, “No”, he did not hear anything.

I kept quiet and I am still keeping quiet about those things heard. Only it has helped me to stay adamant and on course in pursuit of God. Wrong counsels have come, pressures have come to make me reverse my earlier decisions, but I remain anchored in the words expanded from
Rom 8:28
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. KJV

That verse became my best companion among all the verses. Many things didn’t worry me anymore. I could be tossed, perplexed, harassed, battered or be in lack. All things work together for the good of the one who loves God. That cannot be out of laziness because loving God is obeying His commandments (Jn 14:15). Do you love God?

The second Christian book was I read after that was written by Mrs. Ruth England. The title is, “My Word from God.” It was about a woman, deeply perplexed by the embarrassing way the husband was running ministry. Churches kept rejecting them. The messages of the husband were not compassionate. They were judging the people and condemning them. The wife talked and talked and the man will not listen.

So the woman resorted to writing notes to God as a way of praying. Over time, she started sensing answers to her notes. She began to write these down and she was surprised to find that the answers matched her prayers.

Was God talking back to her? Yes! With time she gained more confidence in things she heard. She compiled some of such notes and their answers into a booklet and made it clear that God speaks to us today.

Again at the end of the book I simply asked God, “Do you still speak to people?”

I wrote down the answer I got. His answer was, “Yes”

Then I asked further, “Do all your children hear You?” The answer was, “Not all.”
“So what percentage of them hears You?”
His answer was, “Less than ten percent”.
I was perplexed; the majorities are not hearing their Father? Then the Lord gave an illustration in my mind. The illustration was about a shepherd and his flock of sheep. Not all the sheep hear the shepherd. Not all the sheep see him but all the sheep can follow the shepherd if each sheep closely follows the one before it as that one follows the one ahead of it. Thus the whole flock can follow the shepherd. The shepherd only has to direct by voice or by cane the sheep near him. God’s people are like sheep.

It is wonderful recalling this experience now, I feel bad that I did not know from then that discipleship is the correct way for every Christian. It took me very many years before I heard of Bro. Gbile Akanni who opened my eyes to the concepts of discipleship. Any denomination that does not embrace discipleship is in for trouble. Rebellion would be common. The believers would obey authority. The people would each do what he or she likes. It is as if there is no king in Israel.
Judg 17:6
In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in his own eyes. NKJV
Thus I became confident that God speaks and that He expects His people to hear Him. My prayer life changed. It became mostly questions and answers sessions.

My Next Problem Is Prayer Was One Of Unbelief In Some Of My Question And Answer Sessions.
I was living then in a shop by the Township Stadium here in Lokoja, and I wanted to go home for Charismas in 1996. I had this generator with me in the shop. Do I take it to my uncles house in the Government Reservation Area, GRA, or leave it here in the shop and go home? I asked Him.“Which one can You help me do?

His answer has guided me in prayer since then. He said “I can do any one you can believe Me for”. Of course, I left the generator in the shop and left for Christmas. It was there when I returned.

God can do all things. That is the first thing a person stepping into prayer lifestyle should know. Our faith determines what He would do. We limit God by our unbelief. The limit of revival is man, not God. In revival, the people are to be willing.
Ps 110:3
Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power, in the beauties of holiness from the womb of the morning: thou hast the dew of thy youth. KJV

They are:
Willing to gather
Willing to give
Willing to die
Willing to preach
Willing to pray
Willing to go into Missions

THE END
